Prismacolor Pens on 11"x14" bristol. September 19, 2008.
Fanart for the series Fullmetal Alchemist, featuring Edward Elric and Envy.
If you hadn't guessed, the title is composed of three synonyms for "envy." I thought it was appropriate for the way Envy seemed to be "coveting" Ed and his arm, to be perfectly vagarious. Initially, I had intended to name this piece "Human Sacrifice" because Ed is constantly referred to as such in the anime series and manga, but felt that this specific piece lacked a certain element that that title would amplify. I'm not sure what the element would be, but it was definitely not present in this piece, hence the name change.
So, this piece is more of an experiment with pen technique, since I've been so focused on marker for fan art, lately, and graphite and charcoal for classes. I definitely needed the practice with the pen and am moderately pleased with the outcome.
This was also an attempt at new positions of the body. I attempted a view from more or less below the figures. It's not very clear, and I need to study the forms more, but the viewer's perspective is supposed to be almost or nearly below Ed's chest with Envy towering above. The lack of background also makes this difficult to discern.
So, a fairly bloody, aggressive piece, heightened by the sketchy, assertive line markings and use of diagnals, I'd say this is a nice "sketch" but probably not near the level of "drawing" that any of my professors would classify as adequate of that designation. Alas. But it was fun! And the value scale is thoroughly represented, and I believe fairly well balanced. Any concerns with anatomy or perspective or whatnot, please send me a comment. And yes, Ed's left arm is far too long. A mistake I did not catch in time...
"Hagane no Renkinjutsushi" (Fullmetal Alchemist) is a manga by Hiromu Arakawa and anime directed by Seiji Mizushima, at the studio Bones; I do not own any part of the series or manga, including any of the characters or concepts portrayed.
Comments and criticisms greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Your art continues to amaze me, it makes me feel that Ed won't get out of this one. "Come one ed, get out of there" *pounces on envy*. This is making me want to draw my persona killing envy again. I have one already draw for a fanfic I was doing, but I dropped it because I didn't want any fma stuff in it. I wanted her story to be my own, you know. Great piece, if I had a paypal account I would so buy this, and any of your other works.

Who are you callen a pipsqueak midget that cant go to the beach, because he's so small he'd sink into the sand, and when the tide comes in, he doesn't even seem worried drowning because he's so microscopic he can breath oxygen out of the stupid water
Thank you so much! I don't know how this piece came into being, but it just started to happen. It's very dark and sad; I should really do something more uplifting next time... It certainly does look like Ed won't be able to get out of it :S
You should defintely draw someone (even a self portrait) clobbering Envy. He'd definitely deserve it! And I think it would be an awesome piece! Seeing Envy go down would just make anyone's day. Except for Envy, of course!

That's adorable! I love it! Envy majorly deserves that! Too bad he can regenerate... Oh well, keep him there until the stone runs out and that's the end of Envy, right? Nice job on that pic; the visible pencil/pen markings add a lot of energy and motion to the piece, while the extreme dark contrasted with the extreme light really enhance the subject matter! One bit of advice I might add, if you are indeed looking to potentially do another one of these (please do, it'll be great!) then maybe add a little more information on the lion's body. It seems to get lost in space, as if there would be no back end to it if this were a three-dimensional sculpture. There'd probably be a belly or rump that would be visible as space receeds. Just something to look at for the next time!
Major kudos on the piece! It's absolutely wonderful!

Wow, this is so dark and cool. I personally enjoy sketchy work a lot, this one is very neat too. You seem to be very creative when it comes to the composition and layout, plus you always use some fun perspective.
I don't know much about FMA but this drawing here is practically telling me to go and watch it NOW. ;D

FMA is a great anime, both manga and animated series. I would highly recommend it. This piece was more centered on the manga style of art, and the premise of the manga plot line, but has no actual relation to any specific scene from either.
This was definitely a different direction for me, but I'm glad it was successful! Thank you for your continued support!!

I would love to see it, especially if there was the kind of detail you put into the muzzle of the lion into it! That was such a great area of interest in that piece! And the blood... Give to Envy! He deserves it! As many times as we can give it to him, he deserves it!
